We believe in the most authentic traditional and artisanal values, in sustainable production that respects the environment, and in products that not only last longer than a lifetime but get better with age, and vegetable tanned leather represents all of this perfectly.
It takes very experienced hands to produce it, a true craftsmanship that is only passed down from generation to generation. A slow process that can take up to 2 months, compared to chrome tanning which speeds up the process to just 1 day, thus minimising production costs and many of the leather’s qualities.
As a result, less than 10% of the leather produced is vegetable tanned. Thus, it is more difficult to obtain this type of leather, it is more difficult to work it and therefore, it is much more expensive.
However, or thanks to that, its advantages are incomparable. The leathers have a life of their own, they breathe, as their pores are not closed, like those of chrome, and therefore age in a very special way, improving with time, caramelising with a beautiful patina that enhances their rich natural beauty. Their scents are classic, intoxicating and addictive and their colours are rich, warm, deep, earthy tones that look completely natural.
